George Eastman was born on July 12, 1854, and in recent years, to honor his memory, Kodak employees in Rochester have started a new tradition by supporting a charitable activity to celebrate his legacy. This year the company planned a three-day “Sundaes for School Supplies” program where employees donated hundreds of school supplies for students in the Rochester City School District (RCSD) in exchange for an Abbott’s Frozen Custard sundae.

Kodak’s brand licensee, Cra-Z-Art, generously helped the effort by donating twenty cases of crayons, glue sticks, and markers. In addition, Kodak’s former packaging business, Miraclon, donated 20 cases of tissues. Kodak also donate over 50 backpacks to support the effort. Altogether, 60 boxes were filled with donations to provide students with the tools they need to succeed in the classroom during the upcoming school year.

Eastman is remembered for his steadfast support for employee programs and for his philanthropic contributions to both educational institutions and entities throughout his beloved City of Rochester. Kodak employees continue to honor his memory 165 years later by coming together as a team to support future leaders in the local community.
