Over 500 members of the Rochester Community joined together on April 21 at Kodak Center to celebrate the United Way’s centennial celebration. Kodak was proud to serve as a Lifetime Sponsor for the event.

Kodak’s connection to the United Way dates back to its Founder, George Eastman, when he joined with a small group of community leaders to start the “Rochester Patriotic and Community Fund, Inc.” This was more commonly known as the “War Chest.”

Eastman helped to raise almost $5M during their first campaign, which is equivalent to $90M today. He’s quoted as saying, “I’ve never had more fun working out anything in my life.”*

The United Way is one of Eastman’s greatest philanthropic achievements in Rochester, and Kodak employees continue to champion this organization today. As Eastman had envisioned, this entity supports a countless number of programs focused on improving the lives of individuals and families in the Rochester community. The Kodak team looks forward to seeing the United Way thrive for another 100 years.
