-

Send Your Picture as an E-mail Attachment
If you want to send your picture using your e-mail program, attach it to an e-mail message. When you embed a picture into
an e-mail message, it will take longer for recipients to open the message and view the picture.
Before you send your picture, reduce the size of your picture and save it as a JPEG file. This ensures that your digital picture
will arrive faster.
First you need to decide whether your picture will be displayed on screen or printed. If the picture is for on-screen display,
resize the picture to a resolution of 72 dpi. If it’s for printing, set the resolution to 225 dpi and the dimensions for printing,
such as 4 x 6 inches (20.3 x 25.4 cm). Refer to Chapter 7 Resize Your Pictures with Picture-editing Software and the section
below to save your picture in JPEG file format.
Save Your Picture in JPEG File Format
After you reduce the file size of your picture, save it under a different file name from the original. You don’t want to lose
the high-quality original picture, in case you want to print it or edit it in the future.
The JPEG file format lets you reduce the picture’s file size. When saved as a JPEG file, a 500K file could be as small as
50K.
-
In your picture-editing software, click File, and then click Save as.
-
Type a new file name, a period, and “jpg” for JPEG.
-
For example, you can type birthday_cake.jpg for a birthday party picture.
-
Click OK.
-
In some photo-editing programs, you need to choose the quality setting for the picture. You can set pictures for monitor display
at low to medium quality.
Attach a Picture to an E-mail Message
The best way to send a picture is to attach it as a file to an e-mail message. If you paste or embed a picture into the e-mail,
the message might take longer to open.
The procedure for attaching a file to an e-mail message is similar in many of the common e-mail programs.
-
In your e-mail program, click Compose, Write Mail, or a similar word to send a new message.
-
-
Click Attach or a similar word.
-
-
Find the picture(s) you want to send on your computer.
-
Click a button labeled Browse, Attach, Look In, or a similar word.
Use the pop-up window or the drop-down menu to find the picture(s) on your computer.
-
When you find the picture, click the picture’s file name, and then click Open.
-
The picture file appears in the Browse, Find, or Look In box.
-
Click Attach File or a similar button.
-
The file name appears in a box labeled Attachments.
-
To attach more files, repeat steps 2 through 4.
-
Most e-mail programs have a file size limit or attachment limit. The e-mail program will warn you if you reach the limit.
-
When you are finished attaching files, click Done or OK.
-
Keep the file size of the attachments small. The time it takes to open pictures depends on the file size and the speed of
the recipient’s Internet connection. We recommend sending no more than 500K per e-mail message when sending pictures to people
with phone modems.
You might want to include the number of attached pictures in the subject line of your e-mail. Some e-mail programs display
a paper clip or other icon to designate that there are files attached.
