Change the Default Program for Viewing Your Pictures
Generally, to open and view a picture located on your computer, you double-click the picture’s file name or icon. The computer
opens the picture file using the default program.
A default is a predetermined choice usually set by the computer manufacturer. If you click a picture icon, the default is
the program your computer uses to open the picture file. Some typical programs manufacturers assign as defaults are MICROSOFT
Photo Editor, PRESTO! Photo Designer, and ADOBE Photoshop Elements.
You can assign a different program as the default for your computer. Why would you want to do that? Perhaps the program you
use takes a long time to open pictures files. If you just want to look at the picture and not edit it, a smaller and faster
program such as KODAK EASYSHARE Software would be more appropriate.
To change the default program assigned to open picture files:
-
Open any folder that contains your pictures.
-
Picture files are usually JPEG files with names like “DCP_0568.jpg,” or if you renamed your pictures, names like “kids on
boat.jpg.”
-
Click a picture file to highlight it.
-
Hold down the Shift key on the keyboard, then right-click the highlighted file.
-
A shortcut menu appears.
-
Click Open with.
-
The Open with window appears.
-
Click the box in front of “Always use this program to open this type of file.”
-
A check mark appears in the box.
-
Scroll through the list of programs and click the program you want to use.
-
-
Click OK. The picture opens with the program you chose.
-
From now on, every time you double-click a JPEG file, it will open using that program.
