This ReadMe contains directions for updating the KODAK DC290 camera firmware. This procedure can begin once you have extracted this ReadMe file and the firmware files to a folder on your hard disk.

The firmware update procedure requires that you follow the steps in each of these sections of the ReadMe file:

1 - PREPARING TO UPDATE THE FIRMWARE

To prepare the camera:

  1. Copy all picture files from the camera memory card to your computer hard disk and then delete the pictures from the card. The camera memory card must provide sufficient space for the new firmware files to be copied.
  2. Place fresh batteries in the camera. You want to make sure that the camera does not lose power during the update. If you have an AC power adapter, use it during the update.

2 - COPYING FILES TO THE CAMERA MEMORY CARD

You can copy the update files to the camera memory card using either KODAK DC290 Camera Mounter software or a card reader. Both methods are described below.

Copying Files Using KODAK DC290 Camera Mounter Software

  1. Turn on the camera and set the "Mode" dial to "Connect".
  2. Navigate via Windows Explorer or My Computer to the System folder within the camera memory card. If the System folder does not exist, you will need to create one.
  3. In the folder on your hard disk where you copied the extracted firmware files to, select the following files:
    d2900104.bin
    rs290104.bin
    update.cam
    update.crs
  4. Copy (or drag) these files to the camera System folder.
  5. Proceed to section 3 "Running the Update Application on the Camera."

Copying Files Using a Card Reader

  1. Remove the memory card from the camera and insert it in a card reader.
  2. On the desktop, double-click the "My Computer" icon.
  3. In the My Computer window, double-click the drive that represents the card reader.
  4. Double-click the System folder. If the System folder does not exist, you will need to create one.
  5. In the folder on your hard disk where you extracted the firmware files to, select the following files:
    dc290104.bin
    rs290104.bin
    update.cam
    update.crs
  6. Copy (or drag) these files to the System folder on the card reader.
  7. Remove the memory card from the reader and place it back into the camera.
  8. Proceed to section 3 "Running the Update Application on the Camera."

3 - RUNNING THE UPDATE APPLICATION ON THE CAMERA

To run the Update software on the camera

  1. Turn the "Mode" dial to Review and then turn on the camera.
  2. On the back of the camera, do the following:

    * Press the "Menu" button.

    * Use the right arrow on the four-way controller to scroll to the
       Applications menu.

    * If Update.cam is not selected, use the down arrow on the four-way
       controller to select the file.

    * Press the "Start" softkey.
    The camera turns off.
  3. Press the camera "POWER" button to turn on the camera. The Updater welcome screen appears on the camera LCD.
  4. Press the "Start" softkey. The screen displays a confirmation notice asking if you want to update to the new firmware.
  5. Press the "Yes" softkey. The End User License Agreement appears.
  6. Press the "Agree" softkey and then press the "Update" softkey.

    A progress indicator shows that the firmware is being updated.

    When the firmware files are updated, a message tells you to shutdown the camera.
  7. Press the "Shutdown" softkey. The camera turns off.

The camera firmware is now updated. You are now ready to take pictures using the new firmware.
