Kodak Professional DCS Pro Back
645C
Contents
 Updated 18 August 2004
Note: This bulletin applies to the DCS Pro Back 645C only. Situation
The DCS Pro Back 645C displays a 'Camera Too Hot' message,
and the camera will not capture additional images.
This error message appears when the DCS Pro Back 645C overheats.
Under normal conditions, the
Contax 645
Camera goes to sleep (goes blank) 20 seconds after the shutter release
button is released. When the camera goes to sleep, the DCS Pro Back
645C goes into idle model and cools. If the camera does not go to
sleep, the DCS Pro Back 645C remains ready to capture images and
may overheat, which results in this error message.

Verify you are using your equipment within the temperature/humidity

What you need
-
The latest
Kodak Professional DCS
Pro Back 645 series firmware version (
download
here
). Kodak recommends that you always use the latest
firmware and host software version for all
Kodak
Professional DCS Digital Cameras and DCS Pro Backs. Firmware and
host software downloads are provided at no charge to the customer.
-
A
Kodak Professional DCS Pro Back
645C to
Contax 645 Camera serial cable (Part
No. 4E2823). When used with the latest firmware version, this cable
lets the DCS Pro Back 645C:
-
sense when the camera's shutter
release button is 'soft touched'.
-
turn off the imager when the camera release button is not
pressed.
-
capture considerably more images before the error message
is generated.
Warning: Do not use this new serial
cable with:
-
The
Contax MP-1
Battery Holder
-
Other functions that require use of the DCS Pro Back 645C
Serial Port (for example, the GPS interface).
What is your image capture workflow?
If your image capture workflow is: soft touch > auto
focus > hard press > capture image > release
shutter release button, the latest firmware version and the new
serial cable
will significantly improve the
over-temperature performance of the DCS Pro Back 645C.
If your capture workflow is: soft touch > auto focus > hold > hold > hold > hold > image
capture > AF > hold > hold > hold,
the latest firmware version and the new serial cable
may
not improve the over-temperature performance of the DCS Pro
Back 645C. For performance improvement, you must release the shutter
release button when an image is not being captured.
How to obtain the serial cable
The new serial cable is available from Kodak. There is
no charge to the customer for this cable.
