When your printer will not function, you may be able to correct
the situation yourself. In some instances a test print may be useful
if it is possible to make one. This bulletin lists some troubleshooting
ideas to solve common printer problems. If you cannot correct the
condition, service may be required.
 Printer does not turn on; power LED does not illuminate
|
Possible Cause |
Possible Solution |
|
The printer power is not
On.
|
Make sure that the power
switch is in the "I" position.
|
|
Cables and cords are not
connected securely.
|
Make sure that all of the
cables and cords are connected properly.
|
|
There is no power at the
outlet that the printer is plugged into.
|
Restore power to the outlet
or move the printer to a live outlet.
|
 Printing takes much longer than usual
|
Possible Cause |
Possible Solution |
|
The image file size may be
larger than usual, often a large PostScript file, and may therefore
take longer to process.
|
Wait a few minutes for the
printer to finish processing the file.
|
|
The printer is too warm.
|
Turn Off the printer for
ten minutes to let it cool down.
Consider moving the printer to a location where the temperature
is lower. Ambient operating temperature should be between 59 F and
86 F (15 and 30 C).

 Nothing happens when a job is sent
|
Possible Solution |

Wait
to see if the job is still processing.

Verify that the printer is in the correct mode: Raster
Mode when using the Export Module, PostScript Mode for all other
printing.

Try printing a file that you have printed previously.

Check that the interface cable is connected.
-
Verify all Export Module or Printer Driver settings.
-
Check the communications settings for compatibility between
printer and host.

Follow the instructions for INIT ERROR See Error Messages,
(TIB7037)

Disconnect the cable from the printer and try a test print.
If this does not work, service is required.

 Prints have white or colored speckles, spots, or
narrow white lines running lengthwise
|

Dust or dirt has contaminated
the print head.

Make
sure that the media in the tray is clean and streak-free.

Make sure that the ribbon is clean.

Clean the print head according to the instructions in "Cleaning
the Print Head" on page 4-4 of the Operator's Guide.

 Prints have multicolored spots
|
Possible Solution |

Clean
the printer and the surrounding area.
-
Move the printer away from ventilation ducts or open doors.
-
If the message persists, service is required.

 Prints have irregularly shaped and colored areas
|
Possible Cause |

|
Fingerprints or other oils
have contaminated the paper or ribbon.
|
Handle media and ribbon carefully
and as described in Chapter 3 of the Operator's Guide.
Use only

 Printer initializes but does not enter Ready state
(INIT error)

 Transparency edges curl on dense prints
 Paper does not feed

Possible Solution |

Examine
the paper and remove sheets with irregularities.

Reduce the size of the stack of media in the paper tray.
-
Make sure that there is only one blue stiffener sheet at
the bottom of the paper tray.

 Receiver (paper or transparency) does not rewind
or ribbon is cut
|

The
wrong media size may be selected on the paper tray.
-
Check the size setting and adjust it if necessary.
-
