The above digital camera models contain an internal KODAK Rechargeable Battery Pack, Part No. 7C3127. The battery pack contains eight batteries and thermal protection components. In this document, the term 'battery' refers to the eight batteries.

Charging restores the battery to its full voltage and capacity. If the battery is dead, it needs to be charged. Conditioning restores the battery charge life. If the battery does not hold a charge or has a shorter than expected charge life, it needs to be conditioned.

Before you begin

  1. Make sure that the camera is at room temperature. The battery will not charge or condition in very cold or very hot conditions.

  2. Locate the DCS AC Battery Charger/Adapter and the power cord originally supplied with the camera. Do not use other chargers or adapters with the camera.

How to charge the battery

Step 1:

Unplug the camera from any SCSI connectors.

Step 2:

Plug the appropriate end of the power cord into the DCS AC Battery Charger/Adapter, then plug the other end into a wall outlet.

Note: The DCS AC Battery Charger/Adapter is for indoor use only. Use the type of power source indicated on the name plate of the KODAK DCS AC Battery Charger/Adapter. A line voltage outside the range of this adapter can destroy the DCS AC Battery Charger/Adapter and/or the camera.

Step 3:

Carefully plug the DCS AC Battery Charger/Adapter into the round connector located at the lower left of the camera back. Do not bend or break the connector pins. Do not excessively flex or bend the cable.

Step 4:

Charge the battery for a minimum of three hours. An LCD, located at the top left of the camera back, displays a battery icon. While the battery is charging, the three segments of the battery icon repeatedly light in a sequence from bottom to top. When the battery is fully charged, all three segments of the battery icon remain lit. It is normal for the camera back to become warm while the battery is charging.

Step 5:

When the battery icon indicates a full charge, it is good practice to continue charging the battery for a minimum of 30 additional minutes. The original User's Guides for these cameras instructed users to charge the camera battery for one hour; however, tests indicate this may not be sufficient to fully charge the battery.

How to maximize the number of pictures per battery charge

  • Charge the battery as close as possible to the time the camera will be used (for example, 1-2 hours).

  • Do not connect the camera to the DCS AC Battery Charger/Adapter for long periods of time. Continuous charging does not maintain a full charge.

  • Use the DCS AC Battery Charger/Adapter when the camera is connected to a host computer. Cameras connected to an active SCSI controller on a host computer do not completely enter "sleep" mode and use battery energy at a faster rate.

  • Limit the use of camera metering or auto-focusing.

  • Use a portable battery pack for applications that require more power capacity. Quantum Instruments (www.quantum.com) offers several portable battery packs. Contact Quantum Instruments or your photographic dealer for more information.

How to condition the battery

Step 1:

Connect the DCS AC Battery Charger/Adapter to the camera and verify that the charging LCD on the camera back is lit.

Step 2:

Charge the battery for 1 1/2 to 2 hours. The battery is fully charged when all three segments of the battery icon remain lit.

Step 3:

Disconnect the DCS AC Battery Charger/Adapter.

Step 4:

Connect the SCSI cable to the camera and to the host computer.

Step 5:

Power on the camera, then open ADOBE PHOTOSHOP Software.

Step 6:

Press the shutter button halfway to activate the camera display.

Step 7:

Press the SCSI ID button until the camera displays 'PC'. The camera will remain active and drain the battery. The battery is fully drained when the bottom segment of the battery icon blinks.

Step 8:

Connect the DCS AC Battery Charger/Adapter to the camera and charge the battery for a minimum of two hours.

Step 9:

Repeat Steps 3 thru 8 for three additional cycles.
