KODAK Photo Print Software

Contents

These Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) were last updated on 01 March 2000.

Features

  1. What is KODAK Photo Print Software?

Photo Print Software is a product that allows you to customize images and print them on a variety of KODAK Inkjet Photo Papers, including our micro-perforated paper, giving you the flexibility to make a print in the size and style that you prefer.

Photo Print Software contains special frames as well as clip art for you to add to pictures. You can even personalize pictures by inserting a text message, adding your own clip art, editing, enhancing, or applying artistic effects such as watercolor, black and white, and sepia.

  2. What are the main features of the Photo Print Software?
Photo Print Software allows you to:
    • Create prints of favorite pictures in a variety of sizes
    • Create cards or stickers
    • Add text, frames, and clip art to pictures
    • Edit and enhance pictures by adjusting brightness and contrast, zooming, or rotating pictures
    • Apply artistic effects such as black and white, watercolor, and sepia to stylize pictures

  3. What types of pictures can I use with Photo Print Software?
You can use any digital images with Photo Print Software, regardless of their source, as long as they are formatted for use with WINDOWS software and are saved in one of the following file formats: .BMP, .FPX, .JPG, .PCD, and .XIF. This also means you can use digital pictures that are already on your computer or are obtained from other sources like non-Kodak cameras and scanners.

  4. What options do I have for using text with pictures?
You can easily place text on pictures using a variety of text boxes, including transparent boxes and cartoon "thought bubbles." You can choose the text's color, font, size, and style (bold, italics, and underline). You can also choose where to place text inside the text box: centered, right-justified, or left-justified. Any formatting changes you make within a text box are applied to all of the text in that box. If you want to change the formatting of some but not all of the text in a text box, you must put it in a separate text box.

  5. How can I be sure that my pictures will print correctly on the type of KODAK Inkjet Photo Paper I am using?
Before printing your pictures onto KODAK Inkjet Photo Paper, print a test page on plain paper to verify that your pictures will print correctly on the Inkjet Photo Paper. To print a test page, place plain paper in your printer and click the Test Print button in the software. The test page will have the same pattern as the printing layout you chose. Place the test page under a sheet of Inkjet Photo Paper and hold them up to the light to see whether the two pages align correctly. After you print the test page, Photo Print Software gives you the opportunity to adjust the alignment, if necessary.

    Tips and Techniques

    1. Things To Remember:
      1. Photo Print Software is not supported on PCs that are running MICROSOFT WINDOWS NT Software.
      2. The multimedia demonstration runs at a speed relative to the speed of the CPU. The faster the CPU speed is, the faster the demonstration runs. This is also true of the demonstration music, which may finish ahead of the video clip on some systems.
      3. Do not use picture files that are formatted for use with APPLE MACINTOSH Operating Systems. This software works only with picture files that are formatted for PCs that are running WINDOWS Software.
      4. Using low-resolution pictures decreases the quality of the printed pictures.
      5. Using high-resolution pictures slows the performance of the software.
      6. If you decide to uninstall Photo Print Software, do not click Cancel once the process has begun. If you do, you have to reinstall the software before you can uninstall it.
      7. When uninstalling KODAK Photo Print software, do not delete any shared files. Deleting these files can cause other applications to fail.

    2. How do I use pictures with Photo Print Software?
It's easy! After you launch the software and select "Start a New Page," the software prompts you to choose the desired paper and layout for printing. When the selected layout appears on the screen, click Get Pictures, located in the upper left hand corner of the screen. Locate and select the picture files you want to use. To select multiple pictures, hold down the "Control" (Ctrl) key on your keyboard, and select multiple picture files. When you click "Open", the pictures appear in the filmstrip on the left side of the screen. Drag and drop the picture from the filmstrip onto the printing layout. When using multiple pictures, drag and drop one picture at a time. That's all there is to it!

    3. What should I avoid when designing a single layout?
If you place different pictures into a single layout, select one picture, and then select Fill All. You can get a fatal error if you then select UNDO. If this happens, you need to reboot.

Note: When these actions are implemented in the sequence above, the UNDO function causes this error.

    4. Why doesn't the picture fit when I change from one frame style to another?
Although you can apply any frame style any number of times to a picture, doing so often causes the picture to resize repeatedly. You will have to select Edit/Enhance to resize and adjust the position of the picture.

    5. What Can I Do If I am Having Trouble Printing?
If you are having trouble printing, check the Technical Information Bulletin TIB4189, Tips for Printing Digital Pictures.

    6. Can I install multiple languages of the Photo Print Software on one computer?
No. Install only one language version at a time on a single machine. Remember to uninstall one language version prior to installing another. More than one language version on a single machine makes both programs non-functional.

    7. Why did my text disappear when I tried to resize the text box?
To resize a text box, you must double-click it. If you single-click the box, the text may disappear.

    8. Why did the software go to sleep after adding text?
The software supports 2k of text, which is a large amount of text. In the very unlikely event that you enter more than 2k of text into a caption, the software may fall asleep. If this happens, press Ctrl/Alt/Delete to reboot your computer.

    9. Why does the print preview look so strange on my lap-top computer?
On laptop computers, grid-like artifacts appear in page preview on the Print screen. However, the page prints without these artifacts and looks just fine.

    10. Where can I find other helpful tips on using the Photo Print Software?
For other helpful tips, please review the readme.txt file on the software installation CD.
