Frequently Asked Questions
Reduced Recording Time on Video Tape
My video tape seems to have a shorter recording time than was stated on the box. Why?
The amount of tape in each KODAK VHS, VHS "C," or 8 mm Video Cassette conforms to the industry standard length for the product. Total recording time is also affected by the speed at which the video cassette recorder transports the tape. If the speed increases even slightly, recording time can be reduced significantly. If you continue to experience reduced recording times, you will want to have your VCR examined by a qualified service technician.
Some VCRs have circuitry which predicts "time remaining" based on the ratio of the rotation of the supply and take-up reels. These predictions can be quite inaccurate, especially with thin-based tape products such as extra length T-160 cassettes. Time remaining accuracy increases the closer you are to the end of the tape.
Kodak is a trademark.
