Transferring Files to a WINDOWS-Based Computer

When you connect the mc3 device to your computer, the application window displays the contents of the Picture Card in KODAK mc3 view. The application window provides the work space for:

  • Viewing thumbnails of pictures stored on the Picture Card
  • Transferring pictures, music, and videos to your computer
  • Deleting music, videos, and pictures
  • E-mailing pictures and videos
  • Printing your pictures

You can also use the application window to view the contents of the C:\Kodak Pictures\mc3 Inbox folder, which was created when the software was installed and holds the pictures you transfer to your computer from the Picture Card.

To access online help, choose Help > KODAK mc3 Software Help.

Using the Application Window

To transfer files from the Picture Card to the C:\Kodak Pictures\mc3 Inbox folder on your computer:

  1. Ensure that KODAK mc3 is the current view.
  2. In the application window, select the files you want and then click Transfer.
    The files are transferred to C:\Kodak Pictures\mc3 Inbox.
  • Duplicate filename encountered. If a file with the same name already exists in the mc3 Inbox folder, a message asks how you want to resolve the duplicate name.

  • mc3 Inbox folder is missing. If the mc3 Inbox folder has been accidentally deleted, a message asks if you want to create the folder.

To listen to a music file, play a video clip, or view a still picture in the destination folder, double-click the file. The file is opened in the default application registered to open files of that format. In mc3 Inbox view, you can drag a file to the linked application designated to open files of that format.

Note: For best on-screen viewing of your media files, set your monitor display to High Color (16-bit) or True Color (24-bit).

Using a Picture Card Reader

In addition to connecting your mc3 device to the computer to get your media files, Kodak provides two optional accessories to help you get your media files.

  • CompactFlash Card Reader is a mouse-sized card reader that can greatly decrease the time to transfer your media files from the mc3 device to your computer.
  • KODAK Picture Card Adapter lets you use a CompactFlash Card in PCMCIA-ATA compatible devices. A 50-pin Picture Card fits snugly in the adapter, providing 68-pin PCMCIA-ATA compatibility.

Accessories are available through a dealer of KODAK products or from our Web site.

To Get Media Files Using a Card Reader

  1. In the My Computer window, right-click the card reader icon or the PCMCIA drive icon, and choose Open or Explore from the context menu.
  2. If you are using the Open browser, open the folder on your hard disk where you want to transfer the media files and then position the folder so you can see the Open window.
  3. Do either of the following:
  • Music files: Double-click the Music folder.
  • Still pictures or video clips: Double-click the DCIM folder and then double-click 100__MC3 folder.
  1. Select the files you want and drag them to the folder opened in step 2.

To listen to a music file, play a video clip, or view a still picture in the destination folder, double-click the file. The file is opened in the default application registered to open files of that format. In mc3 Inbox view, you can drag a file to the linked application designated to open files of that format.

Using the WINDOWS Open Browser

To transfer media files using the Open browser:

  1. In the My Computer window, do the following:
  • Open the folder on your hard disk where you want to transfer the media files and then position the folder so you can see the My Computer window.
  • Double-click the KODAK mc3 icon.
  1. Do either of the following:
  • Music files: Double-click the Music folder.
  • Still pictures or video clips: Double-click the DCIM folder and then double-click 100__MC3 folder.
  1. Select the files you want and drag them to the folder opened in step 1.

To listen to a music file, play a video clip, or view a still picture in the destination folder, double-click the file. The file is opened in the default application registered to open files of that format. In mc3 Inbox view, you can drag a file to the linked application designated to open files of that format.

Using the Send To Command

You can use the Send To command to transfer media files stored on the Picture Card to any destination that is listed in the Picture context Send To submenu. You can add destinations by creating shortcuts in the Send To folder, located in the Windows folder.

Transferring Media Files Using the Send To Command

  1. In the My Computer window, right-click the KODAK mc3 icon and then choose either Open or Explore from the context menu.
  2. Do either of the following:
  • Music files: Double-click the Music folder.
  • Still pictures or video clips: Double-click the DCIM folder and then double-click 100__MC3 folder.
  1. Select the files you want.
  2. Right-click the selected files and choose Send To Destination from the context menu.

To listen to a music file, play a video clip, or view a still picture in the destination folder, double-click the file. The file is opened in the default application registered to open files of that format. In mc3 Inbox view, you can drag a file to the linked application designated to open files of that format.

Using a Third-Party Application

You can open media files stored on the Picture Card using any third-party application that supports and/or is registered to open MP3 music files, QuickTime video clips, or JPEG pictures. To register a file format and associate an application with it, choose View > Options from the My Computer window and then click the File Types tab. For more information, see the WINDOWS Help.

Opening a Media File in a Third-party Application

  1. In the My Computer window, right-click the KODAK mc3 icon and then choose either Open or Explore from the context menu.
  2. Do either of the following:
  • Music files: Double-click the Music folder.
  • Still pictures or video clips: Double-click the DCIM folder and then double-click 100__MC3 folder.
  1. Double-click the file you want to view. If an application that can read the file format is not registered, the Open With dialog box appears so that you can select an application.

You can also open a media file by starting the third-party application, choosing File > Open, and navigating to the file on the Picture Card or by dragging a file in mc3 Inbox view to a linked application.

Note: For best on-screen viewing of your media files, set your monitor display to High Color (16-bit) or True Color (24-bit).

Using RealJukebox Software

If you are using RealJukebox software to transfer MP3 files from a purchased music CD to your mc3 device, set the RealJukebox MP3 option:

  1. Expand the RealJukebox window by selecting the "double box" graphic in the lower-right corner.
  2. Choose Options > Preferences.
  3. In the Preferences window, click the Encoding Options tab.
  4. Under the Format heading, select MP3.
  5. At the bottom of the control panel, uncheck Secure Format.

Copying Music Files to the mc3 Device

DISCLAIMER: The KODAK mc3 Portable Multimedia Device is intended for personal use and enjoyment by individual users only. It is the responsibility of the user to secure the right or permission to use MP3 files. Distributing copies of MP3 files without proper authorization to do so is a violation of U.S. and international copyright laws. The mc3 device and corresponding software should only be used in accordance with applicable copyright laws.

To copy a music file to the mc3 device:

  1. Start the RealJukebox application and then choose View > Organizer.
  2. In the application window Organizer column, do the following:
  • Click the Home icon and then click the Devices/Storage icon.
  • In the Devices/Storage list, expand the KODAK mc3 list and select Kodak mc3. A list of the music files on the KODAK mc3 is displayed.
  • Choose Tools > Add Track to Device.
  1. In the Add Tracks dialog box, select the tracks you want to copy to the mc3 device and then click Add Tracks.

    You are returned to the RealJukebox application window. The Transfer Status column shows the tracks you selected to copy to the device.

  2. In the application window Organizer column, click Home and then click Devices/Storage.
  3. From the Devices/Storage list, expand the KODAK mc3 list and select Kodak mc3.
  4. Choose Tools > Begin Transfer.

    The music files are copied to the mc3 device. When the files are successfully transferred, the Transfer Status column indicates On Device.

Delete Music Files from the mc3 Device

  1. Start the RealJukebox application and then choose View > Organizer.
  2. In the application window Organizer column, do the following:
  • Click the Home icon and then click the Devices/Storage icon.
  • In the Devices/Storage list, expand the KODAK mc3 list and select Kodak mc3.
    A list of the music files on the mc3 device is displayed.
  1. Select the music files you want to delete from the mc3 device and then choose Edit > Delete. (For more information, see Tips and Troubleshooting.)

Set the Playback Order on the mc3 Device

  1. Start the RealJukebox application and choose View > Organizer.
  2. In the application window Organizer column:
  • Click the Home icon, then click the Devices/Storage icon.
  • In the Devices/Storage list, expand the KODAK mc3 list and select Kodak mc3.
  • Click Playback Order.
    The Playback Order dialog box shows the music files that currently reside on the mc3 device.
  1. To reorder the music files, click a file and drag it to the desired location in the list.
  2. To save the playback order, click OK.

Importing Music Files from the mc3 Device to the Computer

  1. Start the RealJukebox application and then choose View > Organizer.
  2. In the application window Organizer column, do the following:
  • Click the Home icon and then click the Devices/Storage icon.
  • In the Devices/Storage list, expand the KODAK mc3 list and select Kodak mc3.
  • Click Import Files.
    The Import Files dialog box shows the music files that currently reside on the mc3 device.
  1. Select the files you want and then click Import.
    The files are copied to the RealJukebox application on your computer.

Using the KODAK mc3 Skin

Included on the software disc is a custom KODAK mc3 Skin, which transforms your RealJukebox player to resemble the mc3 device. Use the buttons on the KODAK mc3 Skin to:

  • Start, pause, and stop playback
  • Adjust the volume
  • View visualization effects
  • View track information
  • Perform other functions

To install the KODAK mc3 Skin, insert the software disc into the CD-ROM drive and click Install KODAK mc3 Plug-in & Skin for RealJukebox.

To use RealJukebox with the KODAK mc3 Skin, start the RealJukebox application and then choose View > Skins > KODAK mc3.

To switch the RealJukebox application back to Full mode, press the Menu button and select Full Mode.

Using WINDOWS Explorer to Transfer Media Files

  1. In the My Computer window, right-click the KODAK mc3 icon and then choose Explore from the context menu.
  2. Do either of the following:
  • Music files: Double-click the Music folder.
  • Still pictures or video clips: Double-click the DCIM folder and then double-click 100__MC3 folder.
  1. Select the files you want and then drag them to a folder in the All Folders pane.
  2. To listen to a music file, play a video clip, or view a still picture in the destination folder, double-click the file.

    The file is opened in the default application registered to open files of that format.

  3. In mc3 Inbox view, you can drag a file to the linked application designated to open files of that format.
