KODAK DIGITAL SCIENCE DC50 Zoom Camera
Troubleshooting

If you are experiencing difficulties with your DC50 Zoom Camera, check the following tables for possible solutions.

LCD Camera Controls Do Not Appear
Cause Solution
The camera is not on. Pull the sliding cover away fromm the camera.
The camera is in power save mode. Press any button to activate ("wake") the camera.
The batteries are low, empty, or not installed. Replace the batteries or use a power adapter.
The batteries are not installed correctly. Reinstall the batteries.
The power adapter was disconnected from the camera while the camera was still on. Plug the power adapter back into the camera, turn the camera on and then off again, and then disconnect the power adapter from the camera.
Picture Is Not Clear
Cause Solution
The lens is dirty. See Cleaning the Camera Lens.
The subject or camera moved before the picture was taken. Hold the camera steady until after you hear the shutter click.
The subject was too close. Move so the subject is at least 2.3 feet (70 cm) away.
Part of a Picture Is Missing
Cause Solution
Something blocked the lens when the picture was taken. Do not place hands, fingers, or other objects in front of the lens or the flash.
Flash Does Not Work
Cause Solution
Flash is off. Turn on the flash. See Flash Options.
The batteries are low. Replace the batteries or use an AC power adapter.
Flash tube has burned out. Take the camera to your dealer for service.
Picture Is Too Dark
Cause Solution
The flash is not on. Turn on the flash. See Flash Options.
The subject was too far away for the flash to have an effect. Move so there is no more than 9 feet (2.7 m) between the camera and the subject.
The exposure is not appropriate for the lighting. See Adjusting the Exposure.
The subject was in front of a bright light. Change your position so the light is not behind the subject.
Picture Is Too Light
Cause Solution
The flash was not needed. Change to automatic flash. See Flash Options.
The subject was too close when the flash was used. Move so there is at least 2.3 feet (2.7 m) between you and the subject.
Exposure setting needs to be adjusted. See Adjusting the Exposure.
The light sensors are dirty. Clean the sensors. See Cleaning the Light Sensor and Focus Sensors.
The light sensors are covered. Hold the camera so your hands or other objects do not cover the light sensors.
Nothing Happens When the Shutter Button Is Pressed
Cause Solution
The flash is recharging. Wait until the viewfinder light is off.
The camera does not have room for another picture. Use a memory card to capture additional pictures. Erase the pictures stored int he camera's internal memory.
You may want to transfer the pictures to your computer before you delete them from the camera.
The shutter button was not pressed down far enough. Press and hold the shutter button halfway down. Allow the camera to focus. When a steady green light appears in the viewfinder, the camera is focused. Press the button the rest of the way down.
The camera is saving a captured image to memory. Wait for the save process to finish.
The camera is copying an image to the memory card. Wait for the copy process to finish.
The camera is erasing pictures. Wait for the erase process to finish.
The camera is not on. Pull the sliding cover away from the camera to turn it on.
The timer is counting down. Wait for the timer to finish counting down.
The zoom button was pressed. Wait for the lens to adjust.

E1 The memory card is not compatible with the DC50 Zoom Camera. Use a compatible card.
E10 Take the camera to your dealer for service.
E11 Take the camera to your dealer for service.
E12 Take the camera to your dealer for service.
E13 Take the camera to your dealer for service.
E14 Take the camera to your dealer for service.
E15 Take the camera to your dealer for service.
E16 Take the camera to your dealer for service.
E17 Take the camera to your dealer for service.
E20 Reseat the memory card.
or
Replace the memory card with a known good card.

Take the camera to your dealer for service.
E21 Confirm that the memory card is compatible with the camera.

Reseat the memory card.
