Getting to Know Your Camera

LCD Camera Controls

To access an LCD Camera Control:

  1. Press the MODE button until the icon you want to select flashes.
  2. Press the SELECT button to display the options for the selected icon.

    The MODE, SELECT, and ERASE buttons are located below the LCD Camera Controls.

1 Auto Focus—Allows you to select from three focus settings: multi-spot auto focus, single-spot auto focus, and close-up focus.
2 Manual Exposure Settings—Allows you to change the exposure to adjust the camera for too dim or too bright lighting. You can adjust the exposure to ± one stop in 1/2-stop increments.
3 Flash Indicator—Allows you to select from three flash settings: automatic flash, flash off, and flash on (fill flash).
4 Picture Quality Settings—Allows you to select from three picture quality settings for your captured pictures.
5 Self-timer—Allows you to delay the camera shutter release for 10 seconds before the camera takes a picture.
6 Erase Pictures—Appears only when pictures are in the camera's internal memory or on an optional PCMCIA-ATA memory card in the camera. Erase Pictures deletes all pictures from the camera memory or memory card.
7 Memory Card—Appears only when an optional PCMCIA-ATA memory card is in the camera.
8 Copy Pictures—Appears only when an optional PCMCIA-ATA memory card is in the camera. Copy Pictures allows you to copy pictures from the camera's internal memory to the memory.
9 Pictures Taken Counter—Shows the number of the last picture taken for storage in the camera's internal memory or on a memory card.
10 Pictures Remaining Counter—Shows the approximate number of pictures that you can still take at the current picture quality in the camera's internal memory or on a memory card. When the memory is full, "FUL" appears in the Pictures Remaining Counter.
11 Battery—Indicates the battery level as Full, Low, or Empty. The Battery icon does not appear when an AC power adapter is in use. The Battery icon is updated when the camera is turned on and when you "wake" the camera. When the Battery icon appears empty, you must replace the batteries. Pictures will remain stored in the camera's internal memory even if the camera batteries are empty.

Turning the Camera On and Off

  1. Pull the sliding cover away from the camera until the camera clicks.

  2. Verify that icons appear on the LCD on the back of the camera. The camera is ready to take pictures.

    Note: If icons do not appear on the LCD, push the sliding cover closed and pull it open again. If the icons still do not appear, verify that the batteries are properly installed.

Automatic Power Off

The DC50 Zoom Camera automatically turns off ("goes to sleep") after 1, 2, or 4 minutes without use, even when you use an AC adapter. This "save" mode conserves the batteries.

Refer to the software documentation for information about changing the "sleep" time for the power save mode You can "wake" the camera and return it to a ready state either by lightly pressing any button or by closing and opening the sliding cover.

Turning the Camera Off

Push the sliding cover closed to turn off the camera.
