With optical zoom, you can zoom out with Wide Angle (28 mm), which captures more of the surrounding area in your picture, or zoom in with Telephoto (84 mm), which brings the subject three times closer.

Set the camera to one of the capture modes.

Toggle the Zoom button toward T for Telephoto, or W for Wide Angle.

Take the picture.
