The Universal Serial Bus (USB) is a relatively new method for your camera to communicate with a personal computer. A USB connection is faster than an RS-232 serial connection.
USB requires special computer hardware and software features, including a USB enabled motherboard, USB connections, and a Windows 98 operating system. Most computers manufactured prior to January 1997 do not meet these requirements.
- Verify that a USB connector is present.
This connector is normally on the back of the computer.
- Right-click the My Computer icon.
- Click Properties in the pop-up menu.
- Verify the operating system is Windows 98.
- Click the Device Manager tab.
- Verify that the Universal Serial Bus Controller is present without any yellow or
red indicators.
- Click Universal Serial Bus Controller.
- Verify that a controller and USB Root hub are listed.
- Double-click USB Root hub.
- Verify that device status is "The device is working properly."
If all of the above conditions are met, your computer supports a USB connection.
