Information for Windows Vista OS

To use KODAK PROFESSSIONAL DCS Photo Desk with the Windows Vista Operating System, you must set the software to run in Windows XP (Service Pack 2) Compatibility Mode. Perform the following steps:

  1. Download DCS Photo Desk to your computer.
  2. Double-click the Photo_Desk.exe file.
  3. Follow the instructions to install the software on your computer.
  4. Shut down your computer.
  5. Restart your computer and select Start > All Programs > Kodak > DCS Photo Desk.
  6. Right-click DCS Photo Desk and select Properties.
  7. When the DCS Photo Desk Properties box appears:
    1. Select the Compatibility tab.
    2. Select Run this program in compatibility mode.
    3. In the compatibility mode list, select Windows XP (Service Pack 2).
    4. Click OK.

* DCS Photo Desk V3.0 and newer versions are not compatible with WINDOWS 98SE, WINDOWS Me, and WINDOWS NT4.0. Users who are running any of those operating systems should install DCS Photo Desk V1.6.

** DCS Photo Desk V3.3 and newer versions are not compatible with any versions of Mac OS prior to 10.2.8. Users who are running systems with a version of Mac OS prior to 10.2.8 should install DCS Photo Desk V3.2.1 or DCS Photo Desk V3.0.

*** DCS Photo Desk V4.3 is fully compatible with DCS Camera Manager V4.2.

**** DCS Photo Desk V4.3 is fully compatible with DCS File Format Module V4.2. DCS Photo Desk V3.2.1 is fully compatible with DCS File Format Module V3.3.

***** Photo Desk can export images in a number of formats (finished TIFF, finished JPEG, and KODAK RAW DCR/TIF) that can be processed by various other KODAK and OM applications. For compatibility details for any companion application that will accept images from Photo Desk, consult that application's specifications or operations manual. Your KODAK representative can help with details regarding configurations for KODAK applications.

DCS Photo Desk can do the following:
  • Lens Optimization adjustment for DCR images captured with DCS Pro 14nx, DCS Pro SLR/n, and DCS Pro SLR/c (requires firmware version 5.0.1 or newer).
  • Paste Special control that allows the user to select specific edits when copying settings from one image to another.
  • Creation of Exif V2.2 compliant Tiff and JPEG images.
  • Browse raw and edited DCS/DCR images in folders on hard disks, CD-ROM, PC Cards and network servers using an efficiently laid out contact sheet interface that displays image settings in iconic form.
  • Browse Kodak and non-Kodak JPEG images.
  • Browse DCS Photo Desk and DCS Digital Camera-created TIFF images.
  • Automatically monitor folders and add thumbnails to their display as new images arrive.
  • Open multiple images in windows with variable view scaling from 10 to 200%.
  • Control cropping, rotation, balance, lighting, exposure compensation, look, sharpening and noise reduction.
  • Save image files as standard JPEG and TIFF files, with optional naming and sequence numbering.

DCS Photo Desk cannot transfer images from a tethered camera. Use DCS Camera Manager if you need tethered access to your camera. Use the DCS Acquire Module for MACINTOSH Systems or the DCS TWAIN Data Source for WINDOWS Systems if you need access to older SCSI-connected camera models, such as the KODAK PROFESSIONAL DCS 400 series Digital Cameras.
