8-Megapixel Device Brings New Level of Performance, Productivity to Applied Imaging Applications
ROCHESTER, N.Y., July 15, 2009 - Eastman Kodak Company (NYSE:EK) is again driving the latest advances in image capture with a new high-resolution CCD image sensor targeted to machine vision and other applied imaging markets.
The KODAK KAI-08050 Image Sensor sets a new benchmark for image capture in applied imaging markets, providing 8-megapixel resolution at up to 16 frames per second. A Region of Interest (ROI) mode enhances the versatility of the sensor by supporting partial readout at even higher frame rates, such as 6 megapixels in a 16:9 aspect ratio at 20 fps, or standard VGA - appropriate for fine focusing of an image before high-resolution capture - at over 60 fps. With a broad dynamic range and excellent imaging performance, the new sensor is ideal for applied imaging applications that require both high resolution and frame rate, such as machine vision, industrial inspection, traffic monitoring, and medical applications.
“Resolution and frame rate remain key drivers of productivity for applied imaging applications,“ said Michael Miller, manager of Kodak's CCD Image Sensor Business, part of the company's Image Sensor Solutions group. “With the performance and imaging flexibility available from the KAI-08050 image sensor, Kodak is again leveraging our latest technology innovations to bring a new level of productivity to these markets.“
The new image sensor is the fourth product to be based on the KODAK TRUESENSE 5.5 micron Interline Transfer CCD Platform, an advanced technology that offers significant advances in pixel size, frame rate, and image quality compared to Kodak's previous generation of technology. This family of interline CCD image sensors - with resolutions of 1-megapixel, 2-megapixel, 1080p (1920 x 1080), and now 8-megapixel - all share common pin-out and electrical configurations, allowing camera manufacturers to leverage camera designs across the entire sensor portfolio to shorten time-to-market for new camera products.
Engineering grade devices of the KAI-08050 are currently available, with production availability planned for early Q3, 2009. The KAI-08050 will be available in both color and monochrome configurations.
