Delightfully Compact, Remarkably Precise
Schneider’s precision-crafted VARIOGON lenses are crafted with aspheric elements to produce a compact lens that can go virtually anywhere to capture stunning photos. These aspheric elements prevent distortions and the loss of edge sharpness that can be created by spherical lenses that are also typically larger. In high zoom KODAK EASYSHARE digital cameras, extra low dispersion glass (ED glass) elements are utilized to reduce chromatic aberrations that are difficult to control in high-ratio zoom lenses. The result is reduced flare, enhanced contrast and sharpness, and saturated color in all zoom ranges.

Aspherical lenses have thicker edges or thicker centers. The difference may look small but it is huge in optical terms.

Extra Low Dispersion (ED) Glass Reduces Chromatic Aberrations
White light is made up of a mixture of colors, each a different wavelength that bends differently as the light passes through a lens. Without the benefit of the ED glass elements found in KODAK EASYSHARE digital cameras, the white light coming into the lens would not focus in the same spot, resulting in loss of image sharpness. ED glass elements focus all the color wavelengths of white light at the same point on the other side of the lens to produce crisp images.
