Moving Image
What is the Moving Image?
The technologies for capturing, editing and showing moving images have gone through big changes in recent years. Film continues to be the capture medium of choice for most professional filmmakers, but many steps in the movie-making process are now carried out on digital data sets. The technology introduced by Kodak under the name Cineon has become the de facto industry standard.
In parallel to the changes in professional filmmaking, consumers are embracing video as a means of capturing and sharing their experiences thanks to convenient capture devices and sharing platforms. Advances in memory, network bandwidth and video capture have made video almost as commonplace as still images.
Moving Pictures Today
Over the next few years, people will use moving images in new ways, many of which are difficult to predict. Technological change, however, will deliver higher quality, lower cost and more ways for people to access the moving image. Some of the capabilities that had been accessible only to professionals will become available to consumers. Quality, cost and ease of use will continue to drive the adoption of video in the consumer space.
