Product Fragility Assessment

Shock fragility analysis is used to determine the maximum mechanical shock levels a product can withstand. Damage to a product may occur in a number of forms: electronic malfunction, breakage or aesthetic damage. A shock machine is used to determine the maximum acceleration and velocity change that would cause damage to the product.

Evaluation of the fragility of a product and its sub-assemblies and components early in the development cycle ensures robust design. A robust design requires less packaging, resulting in reduced packaging costs.

Product fragility assessment utilizes shock and vibration testing to determine robustness of various products or sub-assemblies.

  • Shock Testing - Shock Testing per ASTM D-3332. Half Sine and Trapezoidal shaped pulses.

Vibration analysis is used to determine natural or resonant frequencies of various components within a product. It identifies the components that may be prone to fatigue or may be vibration sensitive.

  • Vibration Testing - Vibration Testing per ASTM D 999 and D 4728.
  • High Frequency Vibration Testing - High frequency vibration testing up to 3000 Hz.
