In September 2002 Kodak will introduce a new range of 35 mm colour negative films in 200, 400 and 800 speeds that will meet the needs of advanced amateurs, enthusiasts and professional photographers: Kodak Professional Royal Supra films. The new film family replaces previous Kodak Royal and Kodak Professional Supra film families.
The new Royal Supra 200 and 400 colour print films incorporate the latest short red spectral sensitivity technology and advanced colour management technology to deliver accurate skin tones and improved sharpness.
"The improved imaging qualities of the Royal Supra films make these films ideal for optical printing and for conversion to digital images for scanning, use on computers or e-mailing and shows Kodak's continued commitment to expanding the benefits of film," said Andreana Dixon, Film Brand Manager "What's more, simplified packaging design will eliminate confusion when selecting and buying the best film for the occasion. The overall improvements in these films will benefit all the picture-takers who use them."
New Film Improvements
The two new Kodak Professional Royal Supra 200 and 400 speed films feature excellent sharpness that brings improved detail to pictures. The new films also feature improved colour consistency over a wide range of exposures. Kodak incorporated
short red spectral sensitivity and advanced colour management technology to the new Royal Supra 200 and 400 films to optimise accurate skin tone reproduction over a wide range of flesh tones. The results are excellent people pictures. The 'eye-like' spectral sensitivity of the Royal Supra films 'sees' colours similarly to the eye with multi-illuminant capability. This means excellent reproduction of difficult to reproduce colours and improved pictures in mixed lighting. The enhanced versatility of the new film features improved colour consistency over a wide range of exposures and dramatically improved blues and purples.
The Kodak Professional Royal Supra 200 film features the world's best grain at ISO 200 and improved sharpness for clearer pictures with outstanding detail. Likewise, Royal Supra 400 film features the best grain in its speed category as well as improved sharpness for clearer crisper pictures. Kodak Professional Royal Supra 800 film is renamed from today's Kodak Professional Supra 800 film. Kodak's proprietary Advanced Development Accelerator in this film brings an exceptionally fine grain. The two stop push process capability of the Royal Supra 800 has a minimal impact on grain, contrast, colour and shadow detail. This means added versatility for low-light conditions or sporting events.
Printing
Both the Kodak Professional Royal Supra 200 and 400 films print on the same printer channel. Many users can obtain very good results using the existing channel set up for Kodak Portra films. Kodak Professional Royal Supra 800 film will print optimally on existing Supra 800 channels. The same is true in scanning, both Royal Supra 200 and 400 films use the same scanning set-up and lookup tables.
Low speed films discontinued
An integral part of the development for the new Royal Supra 200 film was for its grain when exposed at ISO 100 to be similar to that of the current Royal 100 and Supra 100 professional film. This goal was set to allow photographers for whom fineness of grain is the prime criterion in film selection, to be able to use the new Royal Supra 200 film rated at 100, free of any grain worries. Having the world’s best grain at 200 speed and improved sharpness, the Royal Supra 200 speed film is more versatile than a 100 speed film, while still meeting the image structure needs of previous 100 speed users. This makes it a good replacement for the old Royal 100 and Supra 100 professional films, which will be discontinued.
Kodak, Kodak Professional, Royal, Supra and Portra are trade marks
