Inkjet Printing

  1. I'm not familiar with inkjet printing. Can you give me more information about it?
Inkjet printing provides conveniently produces color, hard-copy output from a digital file that may contain a combination of pictures, graphics, and text. Affordable inkjet printers offer high-quality results that are well suited for many business and home applications. Inkjet printers and media are part of a rapidly growing market of color graphics and pictorial displays. Many traditional professional, commercial, and reprographic labs also offer this type of output.

  2. What are the problems associated with using plain copier paper in my inkjet printer?
    • Inks "bleed" into the paper, yielding low resolution
    • Colors lack "snap"
    • Low contrast
    • Limited full color and low saturation
    • Paper puckers and wrinkles
    • Lack of substantial "feel" to the paper
    • Lacks brightness

  3. What are the advantages of using Inkjet photo paper in my inkjet printer?
    • Bright pictures
    • Excellent picture quality
    • Best color output
    • Sharp lines
    • Crisp text and vivid colors with "snap"
    • Excellent coverage and saturation
    • True photographic "feel" to photo-weight paper
    • Minimized banding
    • Long-lasting output
    • Pucker and curl resistance

  4. Can I use Kodak Inkjet Media in a laser or thermal printer or a copier?
No, it is designed exclusively for use in inkjet printers.

  5. Can I use Kodak Inkjet Paper in my "all-in-one" multi-purpose printer or printer/fax machine?
Kodak Inkjet products work in any inkjet printer. You can use the paper in your multi-purpose printer or printer/fax machine as long as it is an inkjet device and not a thermal or a toner and hot-fuser device. The only exception to this is the Kodak Bright White Inkjet Paper. Because it is not a coated product, it cannot be used in all printers and copiers.

  6. Why do Kodak Ultima and Premium Picture Papers measure lower brightness and whiteness than Picture Paper or Photo Communication papers?
    • Brightness and whiteness are a result of coating, base paper, additives (like optical brighteners) and lighting.
    • Ultima and Premium Picture Papers are resin coated, unlike our other papers. You cannot compare resin-coated papers with non-resin coated papers because of the difference in paper formulations.
    • Ultima and Premium Picture Papers are made with high-quality, photographic base paper and premium white, brightener-free coatings.

  4. What is the difference between Kodak Ultima Picture Paper, Premium Picture Paper and Picture Paper?
For the differences of our Kodak Ultima Picture Paper, Premium Picture Paper and Picture Paper go to our comparison chart at URL: http://www.kodak.com/global/plugins/acrobat/en/service/inkjet/inkjetCC.pdf

  5. Why does Kodak offer 4x6.5 and not a 4x6 size?
To provide a solution for consumers that works in all printers, which includes borderless printers and the HP PhotoSmart printers, we developed the 4x6.5 product as a universal solution. You can use this size with all inkjet printers. Generally the printable area is 1/2 inch less than the actual paper length. The extra half inch lets customers print pictures larger so they can get a true 4x6 print.

  6. Why did Kodak eliminate the perforated area?
Research told us that consumers prefer borderless prints and were dissatisfied with perforations because of the waste involved. To meet the consumer need and to provide a broad solution for all printers, we removed the perforated area. Consumers no longer need to trim additional paper when pictures don't line up with the perforation either because of incorrect paper loading or software issues.

  7. Can I use the 4x6.5 paper with Kodak EasyShare Software?
Yes, if you use Kodak EasyShare software ( www.kodak.com/go/Easyshare ) and use Kodak One Touch To Better Pictures Software ( www.kodak.com/go/onetouch ) with Kodak Ultima or Kodak Premium Picture Paper, you get a true Kodak print - first time, every time without having to make manual printer adjustments.

Note: Review your printer manufacture recommendations for setting up your printer for 4x6 paper.

  8. Will my print on Kodak 4x6.5 paper have a border?
Borders are a function of your printer and in some cases your original digital picture. Some printers cannot print to the edge of the paper, therefore you will have borders. If you own a borderless printer, then you can print with or without borders.

The other factor is the size and shape of the original digital picture. If the picture is not a 4x6 aspect ratio, you may need to crop and resize the picture or you will get a border. To learn more about aspect ratios, cropping, and resizing, click here: http://www.Kodak.com/US/en/digital/dlc/book1/chapter1/index.shtml

  9. Once I print my pictures on the small-sized inkjet papers, how do I store them?
The original package your paper came in acts as a storage envelope for your prints. You should follow normal storage recommendations for printed pictures. Visit our recommendations for storing and caring for your inkjet prints at. http://www.Kodak.com/global/en/service/tib/tib4361.shtml

  10. How do I know if Kodak small-sized papers work in my inkjet printer?
Review your printer's manual to see if your printer allows adjustments for small-sized papers. (Most of today's printers on the market allow you to print small-sized papers).

  11. Where can I get more information on the new Kodak small-sized papers?
Visit our inkjet Web Site: http:www.Kodak.com/go/inkjet . You can also download our new Kodak EasyShare Software with the Kodak One Touch To Better Picture Software. (Kodak One Touch To Better Pictures Software is only compatible with Kodak Ultima and Premium Picture Papers).

Kodak Bright White Inkjet Paper

For information about brightness testing, see TIB4286 , Measuring Brightness on Kodak Bright White Paper.

  1. What is Kodak Bright White Inkjet Paper?
Kodak Bright White Inkjet Paper is a 24 lb bright, white paper that is available in 500-sheet reams for everyday use in printers and copiers.

  2. Where is Kodak Bright White Inkjet Paper available?
Kodak Bright White Inkjet Paper is available at office superstores and many other retail locations.

  3. What are the suggested uses for Kodak Bright White Inkjet Paper?
Kodak Bright White Inkjet Paper can be used for such items as reports, presentations, compound documents, and school work that are typically printed in laser printers and copiers.

  4. What are the specifications of Kodak Bright White Inkjet Paper?
    • 8 1/2 x 11 inch laser printer and copier paper
    • 24 lb weight
    • 90 g/m2
    • 500 sheet reams
    • brightness number: 110+
    • Catalog number: 193-9057
    • available in English only

  5. How does the brightness number of 110+ compare to other similar papers?
At 110+, Kodak Bright White Inkjet Paper is the brightest paper available in this product category. Similar papers have brightness numbers from 94 to 100. Copier paper's brightness numbers are usually in the 80s. Inkjet papers have numbers from the low to high 90s.

  6. What are the benefits of using this kind of paper?
Because of the fluorescent properties of the paper and the high contrast between the ink and a sheet of paper, the colors seem to "pop" off the page. These qualities make text easier to read and more pleasing to look at on the bright, white sheet of paper.

  7. Why is Kodak providing paper in the less expensive ream-sized packages?
Ream-sized packaging is another example of Kodak carrying its photographic message across the entire range of inkjet papers, priced from pennies per sheet to 83 cents per sheet.

  8. Why would a consumer use Kodak Bright White Inkjet Paper instead of plain "copier" paper?
Consumers choose Kodak Bright White Inkjet Paper over plain copier paper because of superior image quality. Bright White Inkjet Paper does not have the dingy, off-white utility grade paper effects, and the fluorescent properties of the Bright White Inkjet Paper and the high contrast between the ink and the paper make a noticeable difference.

For information about brightness testing, see TIB4286 , Measuring Brightness on Kodak Bright White Paper.

Usage Information

  1. Where can I find the recommended settings for my printer?
First, be sure you have the latest driver for your printer. Find out which version of printer driver software you currently have. The version number is normally printed on the installation CD for your printer. Then go to the Web site for your printer manufacturer to see if they have a more recent driver version for your model and operating system. If so, download the driver to your system.

Recommended printer settings for Kodak Inkjet Media are printed on the instruction sheet packaged with the product. You can also find the printer settings on the Kodak Web site. Go to the product page at: http://www.Kodak.com/go/inkjet, and click "Printer Tips" in the menu on the right side of the page.

If your printer does not appear on the list, we may not have tested it with Kodak Inkjet Media. In that case, find the settings for a printer of the same brand that has a model number close to yours (and your operating system). Make minor adjustments and test prints to determine the correct settings for your printer. Usually, your recommended settings are identical or very close to those of the printer model closest to yours.

If your testing is unsuccessful or you cannot find a printer model close to yours, call a Kodak customer support representative to find out if we have tested your printer. See the last section of this document, "Technical Support," for the phone number.

  2. What are your recommendations for optimum print drying?
Inkjet media works best in environmental conditions ranging from 68 to 82°F (20 to 28°C) and 30 to 70% humidity. The drying time varies depending upon the printer, brand of ink, amount of ink coverage, and the environmental conditions. Avoid exposing the product to moisture, which could affect drying time as well as picture quality.

  3. How can I reduce the drying time?
If the printer allows, remove the printed sheets as they exit the printer and lay them individually on a clean, dry surface, or stack them with a piece of bonded paper between each sheet.
