Exceptional paper handling keeps high-speed printing on track.
Reliable paper handling is a cornerstone of the new DIGISOURCE 9110 Network Imaging System.  This is due to a variety of innovative design features, including:

  • "State-of-the-art" paper feed technology which accommodates a wide variety of paper types and sizes.
  • Newly designed paper supplies, which are easy to load and reload for long run throughput.
  • Kodak’s active registration technology, for near-perfect registration of copied images.
  • Efficient, highly reliable "race-track" duplexing with an in-track paper decurler.
  • A unique, user-friendly paper path access all the way from the paper supplies through the fuser to the finishing devices.

Together, these technologies provide an unsurpassed ability to reliably handle the wide variety of paper stocks and alternative receivers (paper specifications) necessary to produce high-value documents in a production environment.

New paper feed technology defines the state of the art.

The DIGISOURCE 9110 System paper supplies come equipped with paper feed technology that sets new performance levels for high-speed, high reliable paper handling. The technology is called Vacuum Corrugated Feed (VCF).  It increases the system's handling reliability for normal 20 lb. bond paper stocks and significantly improves the feeding of heavier weight and secondary stocks used for  high value jobs. Check the glossary for vacuum corrugated feed for more technical details on how this technology works.

All of the paper supplies (up to six) in the DIGISOURCE 9110 System use VCF technology and benefit from the following reliability enhancements:

  • No adjustment is required to feed any and all recommended weights of paper.
  • Parts that would wear, degrade performance, and require replacement are eliminated.
  • Misfeeds and multifeed are significantly reduced while the range of paper types and stocks that can be run reliably is increased.

Specific design features include:

  • Air Knives, which "fluff" the paper stack, creating air cushions that separate the individual sheets prior to feeding.

  • A vacuum feed head design that causes a temporary 3-dimensional corrugation or slight bend in the paper to insure final paper separation.

  • Easy access and minimal maintenance requirements will result in quicker service for the DIGISOURCE 9110 System.

The overall result of VCF technology is more up time and more system productivity.

Newly designed paper supply offers larger capacity and easier loading than ever before.

The DIGISOURCE 9110 Network Imaging System provides a standard paper capacity of 4000 sheets in three drawers. The bottom two drawers hold a total of 3,000 20lb (75g/m2) sheets of paper up to 11" x 17" (A3).  The top drawer holds 1,000 sheets of 8.5" x 11" (A4) paper.  A second paper supply module can be added to bring the total capacity to 8,000 sheets.

Several new and tried-and-true features have been designed into these supplies to make them easier and more productive to use:

  • Easy glide drawer tracks with ergonomically designed drawer pulls.
  • Unrestricted access to drawer when loading paper is provided by a feed head that remains inside the body of the mainframe.
  • Easy paper size adjustment, guides have discrete, notched stops for common sizes.
  • Specialty paper loading orientation is simple and diagrammed by a label.
  • Bright LED paper level indicators show supply status at a glance, even from across the room.
  • Unlock buttons on drawers provide convenient access to paper supplies.
  • Continuous run capability allows reloading of paper drawers not in use; on-drawer status indicators help prevent accidental interruptions.

Active registration technology accurately positions images front to back, and page to page.

The DIGISOURCE 9110 System is equipped with KODAK’s Active Registration module. This technology assures registration quality for the borders, headers and footers typically found in digitally printed materials and for long-run duplex printing and copying jobs.

The Active Registration module, first introduced in the KODAK IMAGESOURCE 110 copier-duplicator, actively registers both the long and short paper edge against a hard stop before perfectly timing the mating of the paper with the image on the photoconductor. This active registration control insures that the image is properly placed on the paper for both in-track and cross-track directions, thus providing excellent accuracy within a run, over time, and across engines.

Race-Track duplexing keeps two-sided imaging travelling smoothly.

Race-track duplexing is a significant part of the reliability of the DIGISOURCE 9110 System. Instead of storing simplex copies in a tray to feed for the duplex image, race-track duplexing keeps the paper continually moving, eliminating the chance of duplex tray misfeeds and waste after a jam. This also contributes to the system's ability to deliver first-in, first-out sets.  The race track paper path and its sophisticated software interface can continually move and monitor a maximum of six simplex sheets when printing the duplex sides of images.  An integrated decurler helps maintain paper flatness for reliable transport after its first pass through the fuser.

User-friendly paper path access helps keep productivity rolling.

The DIGISOURCE 9110 System features a short, straight paper path. This path, in combination with reliable paper feed, active registration and race-track duplex path, significantly reduces the number of paper jams compared to competitive products. Any stoppages are incredibly easy to clear, thank to the paper path and specifically designed software and hardware paper clearance features.

The software features make any jam clearance easier to manage. First, the software senses paper in the path that can be easily removed and automatically exited to the top paper exit of the machine. That done, the system identifies areas that need paper removal, and creates a machine image on the monitor that describes the actions required and indicates the areas in which paper removal is required.

The software senses and displays a message when jam clearance is complete. It automatically resumes the job at the point just prior to the stoppage, delivering a completed document without any other intervention.

The hardware features that make paper clearance so easy are integral to the architecture of the DIGISOURCE 9110 System itself.  They start at the front end, with paper supplies that are designed so that if a paper jam occurs in a supply, the feed head and drawer will open up together. This allows the operator to directly clear the feed head outside of the machine.

The remainder of the marking engine paper path is accessed through two areas. A small front door to the right of the paper supplies opens for clearing the paper feed system. The duplex and simplex paper paths are both accessed through the top of the machine. Opening each cover exposes several sturdy, labeled handles that open the paper path with a flick of a wrist to facilitate paper removal.

Add up all of the paper handling features and capabilities of the DIGISOURCE 9110 Network Imaging System and you've got production reliability to match the system's excellent imaging performance.
