Luciano Tovoli, AIC, ASC, top international cinematographer, has shot many classics like Brusati's Bread and Chocolate, Antonioni's The Passenger, Moretti's Bianca, Taymor's Titus and Veber's Dinner's game and The Closet during forty years of filmmaking.
Interestingly, Tovoli's preferred topic of conversation is not his films, but his unremitting campaigns to promote the status and interests of cinematographers worldwide. In 1992 he was the driving force, co-founder and first president of IMAGO (The European Federation of Cinematographers), and helped establish cinematographers' associations in Belgium, France and Spain. In 1981 in L'Aquila (close to Rome) Tovoli in conjunction with Anna Maria Ximenes and Gabriele Lucci launched the new idea of a Film Festival entirely dedicated to the art of cinematography. This has been the seed of what happened later on, world-wide for cinematographers promotion.
