Director-cinematographer David Douglas, has spent most of his 35 years in the film business making IMAX® films, more than 30 at last count. So, it was fitting that he received Kodak's Vision Award for Lifetime Achievement at the recent Large Format Cinema Association Conference in Los Angeles. His credits include some of the most gripping IMAX films ever made, including Rolling Stones: Live at the Max, Fires of Kuwait and Survival Island.
Douglas has spent the last 18 months working on Straight Up: Helicopters in Action. The film uses the huge IMAX format to showcase the vital, everyday roles helicopters play in modern civil and military aviation. Audiences will get a super high resolution, giant screen look at helicopters in real-world situations. The helicopter action sequences include a high-voltage, live-wire repair, a high-sea rescue, a drug bust, relocating an endangered black rhino, delivering humanitarian aid in war-torn Sierra Leone, and land-and-sea military reconnaissance with the United States Marines.
