Filmmaker and Professor in the School of Theatre, Television and Film at San Diego State University
PROPOSAL: The Kodak Faculty Scholars Award will support the creation of the so-called “D.I.” , or digital internegative data file, which will yield an HD Cam-SR Master. From this Master I will be able to strike an HD Cam digital projection master, a 35 mm projection answer print, as well as all standard definition formats such as Digi Beta and DVD. Specifically, the award will fund the online e.ects compositing, motion e.ects, graphics and scene-to-scene color correction on a Da Vinci (in 12-bit 4:4:4 color space). It will also fund the final sound mix.
BIO: Durbin got his start as editor of the milestone documentary, Poto and Cabengo. He has worked professionally as a director, writer, cinematographer, editor, and story board artist. His films have been broadcast nationally and have been exhibited in museums and festivals in the U.S. and Europe. They have won numerous awards and are in permanent collections at MOMA, the PFA and the ICA. His work has been broadcast internationally on PBS, The Sundance Channel, HBO, the Canadian Broadcast System and other stations. It has also been exhibited in museums and festivals worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and has garnered dozens of prizes.
