considered as one of the best actors of his generation thanks to his intense perfomances in such films
as Colors, Casualties of War, Carlito’s way, The Thin Red Line or 21 Gramms. He received a prize in the 1997 Cannes Film Festival for his performance in Nick Casavettes's She's So Lovely and won an Oscar for Best Actor in 2003 for his role in Mystic River. Since 1991, he has begun a brilliant career as filmmaker. His three first movies (The Indian Runner, The Crossing Guard and The Pledge) and especially his last one, Into the wild, were critically acclaimed.
