Kodak DCS Pro SLR Cameras expands the palette for pro photographers

The world of professional photographers is unlike that of any other. They invest heavily in exotic lenses, spend hours to set up a single shot, and require incredible flexibility from their tools. They draw from a vast palette of filters, light sources, and media to create their breathtaking images.

At the same time, photographers have relied upon medium format equipment - historically viewed as 120- or 220-format film cameras - to create larger images than most digital or 35mm film cameras typically produce.

Medium format photography - whether film or digital - is prized for its ability to deliver high-quality images that find their way into high-end publications, wedding albums, and wall-size portraiture. Many photographers faced a dilemma of whether to invest in another photographic format, in addition to versatile 35mm-based digital and film systems.

The Kodak Professional DCS Pro SLR/c and Pro SLR/n digital cameras respond to photographers’ exacting requirements for performance and flexibility. Designed for commercial, portrait, and wedding photographers, the Pro SLR/n and Pro SLR/c enable users to sidestep the question of medium-format equipment, delivering 14-megapixel files in an easy-to-manage 35mm SLR.

The dual platform flexibility of the Pro SLR/n and Pro SLR/c gives photographers an option that marries their need for a rich image file with their preference for 35mm-based Nikon and Canon systems and lenses. The Pro SLR/n provides a Nikon lens-mount and SLR features Nikon users are accustomed to, while the Pro SLR/c provides a Canon EF lens mount in a more compact SLR body. Both are equipped with a groundbreaking 14-megapixel imager that’s on a par with medium format output (14-16 megapixels).

The imager also offers an expanded ISO range, giving photographers the ability to select the camera’s sensitivity to light across an amazing ISO range of 6 to 1600. This extended sensitivity range is an important creative tool. Film photographers rely on a recipe of film speeds, light sources, and length of exposure to capture subtle distinctions in their photographic subjects. In a digital environment, the 14-megapixel sensor replaces the film as a capture medium. The Pro SLR/c and Pro SLR/n expand the available “palette” of creative choices available for commercial, portrait, and wedding photographers.
