Kodak's Image Sensor Solutions Wins Photonics
Circle of Excellence Award For Fourth Consecutive Year
ROCHESTER, N.Y., Feb. 10 -- Eastman Kodak Company has
been recognized as a winner of the Photonics
Spectra Circle of Excellence Awards, making Kodak one
of only two companies ever to receive the award four years in a
row.
Photonics Spectra a
leading trade magazine covering the science and industry of
photonics recognized Kodak for the 22-million-pixel Full-Frame
CCD Image Sensor created by the company's Image Sensor
Solutions operation. Specifically, the award recognizes the
sensor known as the KAF-22000CE as among the top 25 most
technically innovative products of 2003.
This sensor, which provides unsurpassed image
resolution for the professional photographic market, is one of a
family of KODAK sensors used by the leading manufacturers of
digital camera backs for photographers including Sinar, Phase
One, Imacon, Jenoptik, MegaVision and Digimeq. As photographers
move from film to digital, Kodak is quickly becoming the
supplier of choice to this industry because of the high-quality
components it provides for medium-format cameras.
The Photonics Spectra
award is an industry benchmark for innovation in photonics, an
area of study that involves the use of radiant energy (such as
light), whose fundamental element is the photon. Winning
products are selected for their excellence, innovation and
achievement by a panel of Photonics
Spectra magazine editors. The Image Sensor Solutions
division at Eastman Kodak Company has been recognized for the
fourth consecutive year as a winner of the Photonics Spectra
Circle of Excellence Awards. Can we make this active, rather
than passive Photonics Specta awards Kodak\'85..
"This year's award - particularly when viewed
in light of the continued recognition Kodak has received over
the past four years - is a testament to the talent, innovation,
and effort of those involved in designing KODAK sensors," said
Christopher McNiffe, General Manager, Image Sensor Solutions,
Eastman Kodak Company. "This is a clear validation of our
ability to design and manufacture superior digital imaging
systems that address the wide range of issues that are important
to our customers."
KODAK image sensors incorporate industry-leading
technologies that allow professional photographers to capture
images with superior resolution without sacrificing the quality
demanded by their clients. By improving image quality, reducing
noise, and improving sensitivity, KODAK image sensors have
become the de facto standard for use in this market.
The KAF-22000CE full-frame color CCD image sensor
provides a total silicon area that is twice the photographic
area of traditional 35mm film. The 22-million image sensor is
just one in Kodak's extensive product line, delivering the
core technology that drives the most advanced developments in
digital imaging applications. Kodak develops, manufactures, and
markets solid-state charged-coupled device (CCD) image sensors
for applications ranging from medical imaging applications to
digital cameras and machine vision products.
Photonics Spectra
previously recognized Kodak for the company's Blue Plus
Image Sensors line; the KAF-16801CE, a 16-million-Pixel
Full-Frame CCD Image Sensor; and the KAF-3200ME Image Sensor,
the first full-frame sensor to use microlens technology for
increased sensitivity.
