Remember to maintain your camera, and especially to keep the recording heads clean. In addition, try using high-quality (more expensive) videotape. It not only yields better images, it deposits less "dirt" on your camera's heads. Finally, when you have some home videos that you really want to last, store them properly. Keep them away from any electronic or electrical equipment, especially TVs or stereo speakers.
