If you're
spending more than a day in a scenic area, take a day or two to scout
around for the best photo locations. Notice the direction of the sunlight
at dawn and dusk, and which natural features appear most striking at
those times. Avoid angles where the sun would be directly in front of
your lens. Hike around a bit when scouting locations. Most people walk
no more than five paces from where they happen to park the car before
they start shooting. On the day you come back to shoot, get to your
chosen spot early, fully equipped. Have everything set up and ready
to go when the light gets good. This may mean getting up extra early
or postponing dinner, but your photos should make it worthwhile.
