(DC
210 shot)
Jeff and Melanie allowed me to sit this one out. The picture was
a little too sharp to make it seem exciting. With an SLR I might
have slowed the shutter speed way down and "panned with the action"
to get the blurred motion effect. With the digital darkroom, you
can do the same thing with a filter.
....................
First, I selected an oval around Jeff and Melanie's faces, and "feathered"
the edge a lot (around 20 pixels). I copied that into a layer. Then
I went back to the original and selected around the contraption
they were sitting in, and copied that into a layer. I blurred the
contraption thing slightly using a motion blur filter.
....................
Lastly I blurred the netire original by a more extreme amount which
provides the bulk of the effect. By restraining the blur of the
box, and not blurring them, I ended up with a panning effect.

Another
example of the blur filter.
