Mark: Do you like Winston Cup better than open wheel?

Robby Gordon: Tough question, Mark. I enjoy all of them. I feel at this time and day in my career, I probably should be focusing on Winston Cup. I will try to race Indy because I really enjoy open wheel as well.

Love Rom: Do you personally get involved with working out the technical areas of the car? Do you give input on how the engine or tires are working for you, for instance?

Robby Gordon: That question will be asked of a lot of drivers, to give input. In Winston Cup it's what the driver feels, and how he relates that to the crew chief or engineer, and they choose to correct the problem. I enjoy playing that role and also I do try to help out in the preparation as well. I like to be hands-on, not so much working on it but involved in the decisions. Larry McClure has been open to new ideas.

Lil Bowler 300: Robby, Is nudging actually considered racing?

Robby Gordon: I think if nudging was not considered racing, Earnhardt would not have won as many races as he has. He doesn't call it nudging; he calls it "rattling their cage."

Lil Bowler 300: What happened last season to you? You had some good placements, but mostly provisionals

Robby Gordon: I think the biggest place we struggled was in qualifying motors. Now being with an established Winston Cup team, I understand how much horsepower we were off when it came to qualifying. We were always pretty good on race day but my team last year really lacked in the qualifying horsepower department.

Dave Carlson: Do you expect a lot of passing in the 500, like there was in the Bud Shootout?

Robby Gordon: Dave, thanks for joining us. I believe there will be a huge amount of passing on race day. I think the aero package that NASCAR has us running today is going to produce one of the most exciting Daytona 500s fans have ever seen.

Dave Carlson: Some have compared you to Ernie Irvan in terms of your aggressiveness. Would you agree?

Robby Gordon: I prefer not to be compared to Ernie. I'm my own driver and my own person. I believe I'm very aggressive, but hopefully when I am aggressive, it's a clean aggressiveness, and I believe all of Ernie's aggressive driving was pretty clean as well. He was a very good racecar driver, but we're so different in many areas. He grew up racing short tracks and oval tracks. I think my aggressive style comes from road racing and being able to throw the car around, and like Ernie it took a while to adapt to a WC car. It's taken me a bit, but hopefully this will be the season that I learn how to drive WC well.

Terry C: What type of pictures do you collect?

Robby Gordon: I really enjoy some of my racing pictures, some are pictures of other people's racing stuff and then, of course, friends and family.

Brad: Is the team coming together for this season?

Robby Gordon: I'm very excited about 2001. I think the team is very much ready. And they're very focused. I hope we have a good season.

Jim Kane: Do you like to watch any of the racing series in which you do not compete?

Robby Gordon: Jim, I give a lot of attention to every formula of racing. For instance, last weekend I went to Pomona for the Winter Nationals. I went to the Formula One race at Indianapolis last year. I went to Fontana, the last cart race of the season, so yes, I really enjoy watching races and watching how other racers deal with problems throughout a race, strategies, and ways of tuning the racecar.
