Even though you have an autofocus camera, remember that photography is more than "point and shoot." Think about what you want your picture to say - what the central focus should be, and your focus point.
These two pictures of an archer at the Great Outdoor Games illustrate how focusing on a different point in a scene - the bow sight on the left, and the archer's face on the right - create a totally different effect.
