Just about a year ago, I got a two-part assignment at the 2000 ESPN Great Outdoor Games, in Lake Placid, N.Y. One part was to document the games for the ESPN and Outdoor Life Web sites.

The other part was to host an episode of the ESPN "Canon Photo Safari," during which I was to show actress Kelly Packard, perhaps best known for her role on TV's "Baywatch," how to take pictures.

For the TV show, I used Canon 35mm SLRs and a combination of Kodak E100 and E200 slide films. For the Web work, which had to be posted the same day, I used my Kodak DC4800 zoom digital camera.

Kelly was a blast to work with. Plus, I think the viewers got a lot out of our interaction on screen -- I gave Kelly all my best tips.

Taking the pictures and posting them on the Web was cool, too. Here's a look at how I did it, in five relatively easy steps.
