Bill Brent's Passion

Bill Brent makes his living as a freelance writer in the high-tech industry of Portland, Oregon. For relaxation and enjoyment, however, he grabs his camera bag and heads outdoors. Adventure photography is his passion. Kayaking, waterfalls, waves crashing the shore, and a campfire at sunset, Bill captures it all with his Nikon N90S 35 mm camera and the following lenses - - - a 20 mm, f2.8 wide angle lens, a 35-70 mm f2.8 zoom lens, and an 80-200 f2.8 telephoto lens.

We invite you to take a look at these pictures of Bill's shoot during a 10-day kayaking trip in Canada's Pukaskwa National Park. Learn how he achieved these spectacular results.

Layne Kennedy's Catch.

Layne caught this beautiful lake trout one morning near the mouth of the Cascade River where it tumbles into Lake Superior. I took this shot with my 70-200 mm zoom set at f4 for a shallow depth of field. The shutter speed was 250th of a second. The gleaming yellow-gold undertone of the fish provided a nice contrast to the deep blue of the jacket. The presence of the hands in the shot serves as a scale by which the viewer can see the size of the fish (a critical part of any fishing story). And the fish proved to be a delicious addition to our breakfast that morning.
