People come from all over the city to enjoy Victoria Park. Filipina maids chat together on their day off, and a young couple dances the Toue Sao, an intricate, partnered form of Tai Chi. A violin student practices "Butterfly Dream," a popular Chinese equivalent of the story of Romeo and Juliet, while sports enthusiasts play football or American soccer. It's a gathering of friends and family--a community--so important in a city known for its mercantile hustle and bustle.

Looking out over Tolo Harbour in the New Territories (the northern part of the city, adjacent to mainland China) is Tai Po Waterfront Park. Miles of bike paths connect the park to neighboring Sha Tin, where bicycles can be rented for the day. The New Territories generally have a slower pace than Hong Kong and Kowloon, and there is often a lovely breeze coming off Tolo Harbour
that can be a welcome relief during the summer months!
