If you only have time for one view from on high during your trip to Hong Kong, Victoria Peak in the Central and Western District is the one. Originally called Tai Ping San (or Peace Mountain) this 1,178-foot peak towers over the center of Hong Kong.

Since 1888, a tram has shuttled visitors up and down the steep slope of "the peak" as it is commonly referred to. Before that time, visitors had to cough up an exorbitant (by mid-19th century standards) $.50 U.S. to be carried
by hand in a sedan chair up the hillside.
