Hong Kong is very proud of the bridge that links the new airport on Lantau Island to the rest of Hong Kong, and rightly so--it is the world's longest road and rail suspension bridge. The total span is over 1.2 miles, with more than a mile suspended between the two main towers. In addition to car traffic, the bridge encloses a high-speed airport commuter train that shuttles people between the center of Hong Kong and the airport. Near the base of the bridge on the Lantau side is the site of the new Disneyland theme park in Penny Bay, slated to open in 2005.
