Kodak's flexible display technology is based on cholesteric liquid crystals. These displays have two stable energy states (bistable) - on or off. Once "on," the display remains on indefinitely. When switched infrequently, power consumption is extremely low. Bistability enables the display plane to be separated from the electronics and power supply. This opens up new possibilities where one set of electronics and power can be used to change multiple displays, lowering the overall cost of the installation.
