Phil Borges travels around the world, photographing people in trouble. His graceful subjects are native people living "under great pressure. They are facing political repression, encroachments on their environment, disease, drought or other scarcities." The goal of Borges' project The Enduring Spirit, undertaken with Amnesty International, is to promote universal human rights. Borges wants us to see these "exotic" looking people "as individuals. People like us, who have a right to live as they want."
