Ken Hackman, a professional photographer, arranged each student's best images into a display of nine prints. Preliminary judging was then done by The Bakersfield Californian photo director Casey Christie and staff photographer John Harte. Remarkably, the final judging of this student contest was accomplished by two Pulitzer Prize winning photojournalists ­ Eddie Adams (Parade Magazine) and Nick Ut (Associated Press).
