Six photos from each child were selected for simultaneous exhibition on the Web and at the Elga Wimmer Gallery in SoHo, New York in November 1997. In fact, the gallery opening was the first time that all 12 kids, and their mentors, got together. The on-line exhibit will remain up indefinitely, while the gallery show may travel to several cities. Through the Eyes of a Child has been successful in many ways: The kids had the remarkable experience of seeing the world from an entirely new perspective. The mentors had the pleasure of passing on their knowledge. And Gabrielle Shannon? "I learned how to make the project work. This summer, I'll be head of a new program called 'Digital DayCamp' (at Eyebeam Atelier's Digital Museum), introducing kids to electronic photography. And I'm determined to create an ongoing series of arts-mentoring programs for kids. We will continue to thrive with new children and artists -- and the support of some generous corporate sponsors."
