Setting up the Red Carpet

Kodak photographers and digital cameras were on-site when the stars came out to shine at the 71st Annual Academy Awards®. Photographers took pictures of the arriving stars with KODAK DC265 Zoom Digital Cameras. We sent the pictures to AOL's Entertainment Asylum OSCARS® Scrapbook via the Internet for all the world to see.

Fast processing speed, 3x optical zoom, and high resolution (1.6 million pixels) made the DC265 a natural choice for getting great shots of the stars as they came down the red carpet.

How it worked
The photographer took pictures, filling up the camera's KODAK Picture Card (COMPACTFLASH Memory). He then put a fresh card in the camera and gave the full card to a runner. The runner brought the card to a production room where we placed it in a COMPACTFLASH card reader for fast transfer into the computer. We then sorted and cropped the pictures, and sent them with captions via e-mail to AOL where they were put on the web. Then our runner took the refreshed card back to the photographer, and the process started again.

New pictures every half-hour
The pictures went on view at AOL's "Entertainment Asylum Oscar Scrapbook" [via AOL, keyword: EA Oscar or via Web on AOL's website]. Those who were online that night were able to view new pictures from the Red Carpet every thirty minutes. Interior theater shots of the nominees, winners, and presenters became available after the broadcast concluded.

Web Feature: Shooting the Movies
Along with the Red Carpet photos and interior theater shots, Kodak.com is showcasing each of the five nominees for best cinematography: Remi Adefarasin for Elizabeth; Richard Greatrex for Shakespeare in Love; Conrad L. Hall for A Civil Action; Janusz Kaminski for Saving Private Ryan; and John Toll for The Thin Red Line. "Shooting the Movies," the kodak.com feature area highlighting these movies, takes visitors through an in-depth look at the films, describing the techniques each cinematographer used to achieve each unique "look."
