Creating a Visual Database for Compliance
Scott Davis works out of his home office in suburban Syracuse, NY,
for Panera Bread, a company headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri,
where he is responsible for a national network of company-owned and
franchised stores.
As vice president, concept services, he is responsible for the graphical
identity at the stores as well critical details such as how the bread
will be placed in the bins. And last year, inspecting stores, meeting
with consultants and keeping an eye on the competition required that
he travel some 150,000 miles. This year, Davis decided it was time
to change the way he did business. So, he's bought a KODAK
DC200 Digital Camera.
"What's nice about having the camera is that I can be out in the
field and see something that's either being built wrong or operated
wrong, take photos of the problem, then e-mail it to the recipients
in real time that day," explained Davis. "It's not that they wouldn't
believe me so much, but with a picture attached to an e-mail, it's
pretty hard to argue about the problem."
"To me, the DC200 is the best thing in the world. The quality is great,
everyone that sees it just dies over it." Davis says he has probably
already taken several thousand photos so far - a fact that has also
prompted him to purchase a CD Writer.
"I used to buy a throw-away camera or shoot with regular film,
but then I'd end up with half a dozen rolls of film in my pocket,
traveling around, without having the time to get the film developed.
It doesn't take too long to justify the cost of this camera when
you are doing overnight developing. In the course of a year, I would
easily spend enough on film and developing to pay for the camera."
More importantly, Davis has used his DC200 Camera to cut his traveling
and time away from home in half.
